Hello, I'm Angharad Rixon (you can call me Harrie) and I am the organizer of DFZ.

The first Doily Free Zone was held in Pavia, Italy, in 2013. It was initially created to showcase the work of young lace makers and demonstrate that there are many talented young artists and designers who choose to work in handmade lace techniques.

Since then it has evolved into an event about handmade lace in Art & Design, being open to all generations of lace makers and becoming an inspiring and nurturing forum for the exchange of ideas and technical expertise.

Due to the Covid-19 situation the 2021 edition went online and I confess that I am really excited about this new format. It means that many more people will be able to join us and enjoy the incredible speakers and tutors that make up the 2022 programme. It also means that instead of having to choose two workshops at the live event, participants will be able to work through all of the classes we have put together in their own time. The digitization of knowledge also plants the seed of an archive of lace knowledge from some of the best teachers around.

I am so looking forward to welcoming you into our Doily Free Zone; a place for everyone who loves making lace or would like to learn in a fun (and slightly nerdy) environment.
